Huge fan of Into the Spiderverse. Would have still been lucky if Across the Spiderverse was half as good. It's better. Was seeing some of the early buzz thinking “okay it can’t be THIS good”. It is.
It's a movie that feels huge and deserves to look the part in front of you, so see it on as big a screen as you can. As a middle chapter, it feels like it’s more Back to the Future part II than Empire Strikes Back. I say that in the best way. Builds upon so many background moments in the first film that in actuality have a huge impact on the grander story. Goes to some dark places as a warning in what happens when you mess around with things bigger than you like your place in time or a universe. Also has a great villain in Jason Schwartzman who is seen as a punchline rather than a threat until it's too late. The guy terrified me in ways I wasn't expecting once the plot went past a certain threshold. Fantastic cast all around and was relieved that it hones in on a reasonable amount of spider people rather than bringing out a new one constantly. I love them all! Can't wait to see the next one.
These animated movies are getting the comic book action right way better than some of these live action ones. Go figure! Wouldn't be shocked if this goes on to be the movie of the summer.
