It’s hard enough to write a good script in a consistent voice but a cohesive screenplay comprised of the voices of its own characters is an achievement in itself. Add to that the fact the film is comprised of meticulously delicate and thoughtful visuals, pitch perfect performances, and awe inspiring production design and you’ve got a special project on your hands.

Auto-biographical and impressionistic, this one is clearly for the Linklater die-hards. For a kid growing up in a place with no sense of the past, it only makes sense that Linklater has made up for that with a filmography based significantly on his own memory.

A desperate, primal cry for a world obsessed with the future and what might be, to focus on the present and what is. In a just world this would be the highest grossing film of the year. It does everything you could want a film to do. I laughed, cried, and everything in between.

This really snuck up on me. I was into the mystery but felt emotionally unattached until that ending wow. The messaging of The Batman moves past the The Dark Knight’s post-9/11 reactionary politics in such a powerful and emotionally resonant way. Not to mention it looks absolutely gorgeous throughout. Kinda loved this, might see it again in theaters.
