Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Star Wars: The Last Jedi ★★★★½

“Let’s go chrome dome”

I have come to terms with the fact that this is my favorite Star Wars film. Yeah there are a few nitpicks I have but I love it far too much to care. This film is a visual masterpiece. This time around I payed extra close attention to the movement of the camera and how little it moves. The shots are well framed and rarely move, and when they do it’s mostly through pans and tilts. Unlike most action films, and even some films these days. This makes the events on screen easier to follow and is something I love seeing. This is a bit of a comfort film for me. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s with the themes of failure and overcoming the darkness within. This film has some powerful messages embodied in my favorite Star Wars character of all time: Luke Skywalker. He is a beacon of hope. Always has been. He learns from his mistakes and inspires others to stand up for what is right. And that to me is Star Wars.
