Damn, and this started off so great. Vivid characters/emotions/setting, this is what it looks like when you manage to smuggle real deep care and feeling into a blockbuster/wannabe epic. Eventually though, it falls victim to the fact that it's adapting/condensing several volumes of sprawling story into a single film.
If this had chosen one of its many story arcs and stuck with it (my vote would be more of Alita as a Hunter Killer, the bar scene is by a huge margin where the film peaks) this could have had the potential to stand besides some of my favourite singular sci-fi/action flops of the last few years, like Valerian and Ghost in the Shell (fucking sue me). As it stands, it's about half of a legitimately great film, with the promise of a more interesting sequel that we'll probably never see.
