Hilarious and honest, it's a story about a teenager with an inflated sense of self-importance which I could certainly relate to. Though I haven't been a teenager since 2002 (which is when the story is set), this movie brought me right back. Lady Bird is essentially unaware of the personal lives of the adults around her. She makes a lot of small, selfish mistakes. She comes from a small background and wants to be big but doesn't seem to have a particular passion to drive her forward. She wants the destination without the journey.
This is an efficiently told story that brought back my entire teenage experience. Laurie Metcalf is a real mom. I don't know how else to praise this performance. I felt the need to call my mom afterwards just to thank her and tell her I love her. Definitely one of my top 10 favorites of 2017.
