I’ve seen Chapter 1 & 2 many many times but this was the first time I’ve actually rewatched chapter 3 since I saw it in theaters with my wife in 2019. This rewatch confirmed what I thought upon my initial viewing which is this is my least favorite of the John Wick films, which isn’t a diss at all this film is still great, the other chapters are just better than this one in my opinion.
The thing I like most about this one is it does a pretty great job at mixing up the kill variety by mixing in more melee, knife, martial arts and random object kills. The fight sequence and kill in the library is top tier! There’s also lots of great set pieces in this one. What I feel like drags this one down compared to the other films in the series is the film starts to drag a little because it’s almost non stop action and while it’s amazing at first, I can only watch Keanu Reeves kill people in slightly different ways so many times before it starts to get slightly stale.
I feel like the story for this one is the weakest of the 4 Chapters and I feel that also weighs on why the action in this one starts to get stale toward the end simply because the storyline was not as engaging or as well executed as the other 4 Chapters. Overall it’s still a throughly entertaining watch, top tier action and fits perfectly within the John Wick Saga!
John Wick: Sofia, don't.
Sofia: He shot my dog.
John Wick: I get it.
