Just about everything in West Side Story is spectacular. The staging, the way that everything is framed, particularly for a musical that includes a TON of dancing, is fantastic. The performances are great, the dancing and music is stellar, and the two leads have such great chemistry that you forget that their entire romance takes place over the course of 24 hours.
But above all, I think my favorite part of this film is how well lit everything is. There's never just a shaded, dark backdrop to any scene. There's always a street lamp, neon sign, or some other kind of light providing additional depth to every frame. It's a gorgeous film.
