Brendan Michaels’s review published on Letterboxd:
Complaints of the editing in this film, in my view, miss the point of the perspective of the film. We are seeing the events of the film through the lens of someone (Elio) recalling a memory. This is shown through the editing that cuts out less significant pieces of time, while lingers on events that are more important to Elio. The lens of memory is proven with the Futile Devices scene which fuzzies out like a faded memory, making it all the more tragic. Like all memories, they start to blur into one, nothing lasts. The tragedy of memory.
