Brendan Sheardy’s review published on Letterboxd:
An outstanding cinema achievement. From a cinematography, production design, makeup, direction standpoint, this is arguably the best work that cinema has seen thus far.
A nerve shredding climax, an emotionally resonate ending, and a heroes’ journey on the level of Mad Max: Fury Road are all aspects that make 1917 an unforgettable experience.
HOWEVER, the best part of the film is during the end credits when the woman next to my friend and I said: “They didn’t encounter any American soldiers, so it must have been World War 1”
