Bizarre, funny and unique, this is brilliant and it’s so different to anything else that I’ve seen before. The script is one of the best, it manages to mix comedy, fantasy and drama so well together. The first half is a comedy and the second half a drama, and when both parts are put together the end result is fantastic. It’s one of my favourite films already after only one watch, I just loved it so much. Charlie Kaufman sure…

  • The Farewell

    The Farewell

    ★★★★½

This is such a beautiful and bittersweet look on family, death and cultural differences. The attitude towards death is so different in the east than the west and it’s portrayed here so honestly. It manages to balance comedy and drama so well too, Lulu Wang’s script is great because it makes you laugh a lot one minute but then makes you feel really sad the next, because of how emotional and raw it gets. Awkwafina and Zhao Shu-zhen give standout performaces, both of them are excellent on their own and in scenes together. I can’t wait to see what Lulu Wang does next.

I don’t feel I can write a proper review because it’s such a complex film with a difficult subject matter, but all I can say is I loved it and every single shot has so much emotion and meaning behind it. Juliette Binoche is fantastic as well and the ending is so beautiful and sad, it’s up there with the best that I’ve seen.

    Let the Right One In

    ★★★★½

One of the most beautiful, bleak and depressing horror films that I’ve seen, I really enjoyed this. Some people will find it boring because of it being quite slow but I feel it adds so much to tense atmosphere and nature of the film. I love how a lot of the gore isn’t shown as it leaves it up to the viewer to determine what happens. The acting and chemistry between the two main children is excellent to watch and…

Liked this the first time but I loved it after a rewatch, there’s lots of meanings/messages within so many scenes that it definitely felt like a more fulfilling watch on a second viewing. I didn’t realise the music was so prominent as it is, it’s one of the main vocal points in the entire film and is used really well. The ritual scenes are cool and mysterious, and give off a creepy vibe because all the people in the mansion…

Thought-provoking and bittersweet, this is a love story that’s beautiful and warm and has the most natural dialogue I’ve ever seen before, its just so real and nothing is forced in this. Both the characters of Jesse and Céline have great chemistry with each other and it’s not just the conservations, but the glances that they give each other, that make you believe that they’re so in love with one another, despite the fact they’re practically strangers. This is easily…
