    Fantasia 2000

    Is it better than Fantasia?

Not really. Most of the animation sequences are inferior to the original one.

In my opinion, Rhapsody in Blue and Firebird Suite are the only great ones and about the same level as the original Fantasia film. The Pines of Rome sequence animation ages pretty badly due to the use of CGI. The rest of the animation sequences are fine, but not as memorable.

The introductions are not as engaging as Deems Taylor in the…

    A Clockwork Orange

    A Kubrick classic!

The direction is fantastic. Malcolm McDowell's performance is perfect! The cinematography is very effective, using weird angle shots for a disturbing effect! The editing is top-notch, and so is the (electronically adapted) classical music!

In regards to the screenplay, I felt that the whole movie is an irony. Alex is a very evil person as he tricks other people into believing him. It has a great introduction and the rest of the film is brilliantly structured.

I didn't know that music videos existed in 1940!

The animation sequences and music matched really well. The animation still looks really good!

If you are a fan of classical music, it is a must watch! For film fans, this comes highly recommended!

You gonna need to give Spielberg a Best Director nomination for this!

Of course, the direction is fantastic, the screenplay is really relevant. The acting is fine, although Robert Shaw did the best performance IMO.

It is the technical categories that did the best. The naturalistic cinematography is superb (in fact, it is the first film to shoot in the ocean)! The shots allows the film to be very suspensive. The editing is top notch - the pacing is perfect…

    Midnight Cowboy

How come not Everybody's Talkin' about this film?

The direction is excellent, the screenplay is really good...

Dustin Hoffman's acting is IMO the best in his career. He brings a crippled homeless thief with realism and that is not an easy thing to do. Jon Voight did an excellent portrayal.

The cinematography brings another element to the film. The grittiness of New York, in contrast to the sunshine of Miami and Florida is portrayed effectively. The use of different colours…

  • Face/Off

    What a twist!

The direction is really good. The script is overall very good, especially adding emotional scenes in an action film. The pacing in the second half of the film is a little bit off, but the emotional scenes covered it up. The idea is genius!

The acting is superb. John Travolta and Nicolas Cage switching roles in the film is a tough job! Both of them deserve merits for their performance. The rest of the cast is good…

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

What a rollercoaster ride! The movie is pretty dark! But also great too!

You can read my Raiders review HERE.

The screenplay is not so well written as there is a slight pacing issue, along with some dodgy lines. Harrison Ford is great, however, I think Willie Scott's role is problematic (she frequently screams, but since she is a singer, it is reasonable enough). Short Round does offer a bit of comic relief, but I think it does ruin Indiana…

When you hear the song 'You Wish Upon A Star', it turns out to be the Disney theme song!

The story and plot is relatively decent, but there are plot holes present. The movie is relatively darker for a Disney film (especially the Paradise Island scene). The voice cast is really good (I love Jiminy Cricket voice!).

The music is very good and definitely deserved the Oscar win. The songs are well composed and very engaging (I think the villain's…

  • Bambi

Surprisingly very relevant today, considering summer fires and animal welfare!

It is a bit like a David Attenborough documentary, but animated!

The animation is extraordinary with nice voice cast. The music is absolutely brilliant! The whole film is mainly like a silent film as there is not much dialogue and the sound effects are portrayed through music.

The characters are very cute and memorable. Great effort from Walt Disney.

    Highly recommended!

  • Annie Hall

    Annie Hall

One of the few comedies that won Best Picture, yet Woody Allen doesn't like the final cut!

The direction is pretty awesome. The script is really funny at times with a lot of references to films and politics. The acting is extremely good - really worth an Oscar win for Keaton and Oscar nomination for Allen. There are quite a lot of notable cameos too - Shelley Duvall and more...

The cinematography is naturalistic and serves the film well. The…

    Kung Fu Panda 2

I remember the first time I watched this, it brings me into tears!

The darkest film out of the Kung Fu Panda series really stands out. The voice cast is extremely well chosen, and the animation is beautifully rendered! The plot is pretty fantastic! The villain is great!

The score is indeed very faithful to Oriental music! Kudos for Hans Zimmer & John Powell!

It remains second best in the series as the first one is the best with great humour and the third one is the weakest as there are pacing issues, but with great family message.

The movie is really heartbreaking to watch. Highly recommended!

  • Bridget Jones's Diary

    Bridget Jones's Diary

    Pretty funny!

The direction is pretty nice, the acting is awesome! Renee Zellweger brought a lot of humour, and so did the rest of the cast! Well deserved Oscar nomination! The fight scene is really awesome!

The screenplay does bring humour at times and the pacing is relatively managed well. The soundtrack and the music score evokes the mood very effectively. The editing assists very well. The cinematography looks fantastic too.

    Highly recommended to watch!
