My lord, this was something spectacular. It had been so long since I watched something that really struck me, and this hit the spot. It is hard to identify just what it is about this that makes it so compelling, but whatever it is, it works. I did not expect this to be nearly as emotional as it was, and my word, Victor Sjöström is just on a whole other plane in here. The way his eyes just cut into you is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. What a singular masterpiece.
