Chungking Express 1994
feels like a cubist sculpture where the delight is in how it helps you see sight, and unsee the subject. i relate to the camera and sets and crowds more than the lovers. this is underlined by the characters talking to inanimate objects more than each other, talking to their sardines and fish n chips and letters and the Mamas and Papas (both of which are missing). the song only gains meaning and beauty after the heartbreak, and the person who gave the meaning is gone. the artifacts, the surfaces, come between people but also are the only means of reaching them.
