  • Florence Foster Jenkins

    Florence Foster Jenkins

    ★★★

Two very good performances (Grant & Helberg) in a very mediocre movie.

  • Pharos of Chaos

    Pharos of Chaos

    ★★★

Fascinating and rambling and strange. Clearly everyone was too high to yell cut or edit a single piece of interview footage.

  • Moana

    Moana

    ★★★

    More like Sosoana.

    I'm sorry.

    I'll see myself out.

  • The BFG

    The BFG

    ★★★

Rylance is so, so, so, so great here but the movie is far too shapeless. It strikes me as something that never really could have worked as a loyal adaptation. In fact, this may be as good as it could have been, but not everything that works in one medium is bound to work in another.

    Still, Rylance.

  • Southwest of Salem: The Story of the San Antonio Four

Southwest of Salem: The Story of the San Antonio Four

    ★★★

People are the worst. Especially dudes.

  • Zero Days

    Zero Days

    ★★★

I'm looking forward to 2017's Alex Gibney's We're All Fucked.

  • Trolls

    Trolls

    ★★★

Kind of like Cannibal! The Musical meets Cinderella meets American Idol.

Any movie that can go from Simon & Garfunkel to Gorillaz is just strange enough to get a few points.

  • The Monster

    The Monster

    ★★★

    The monster was ... love.

  • Bad Moms

    Bad Moms

    ★★★

Mila Kunis ably playing a suburban mom makes me feel older than anything in the history of time.

Movie's OK. At one point, I thought it might literally just become montages of the three leads dancing and drinking to pop songs. Which would have been fine.

  • Supersonic

    Supersonic

    ★★★

Those Darn Gallaghers, this fall on TV Land

  • Central Intelligence

    Central Intelligence

    ★★★

It's a shame this thing is so leadenly directed because Hart and Johnson are both great. I'd be all for them trying it again with a better script.

  • Westworld

    Westworld

    ★★★

    Yul Brynner is creepy.
