Brinn_Dwyer’s review published on Letterboxd:
Excuse me, yes, I’d like to file a complaint, for not enough Takia Watiti as Hitler.
A carefully directed and delightful production, with good performances all around.
But that’s the thing, maybe a little to carful and delightful.
From the trailers, and reviews, I was expecting a more risky, bonkers, audacious, over the top film with a serious backdrop, but still sticking to its comedic foreground.
While the first 20 minutes meets all the expectations above, the rest of the film felt like if “the book thief” was directed by Wes Anderson
