Oh my God. Barry Jenkins was already one of my favorite new directors with Moonlight but this solidifies he’s one of my all-time favorites.
The movie is so cinematic but it’s never overdone. It’s a period piece in a classic sense. Barry Jenkins can film just people in a way I’ve never seen before. The way the actors would just stare at the camera was so moving. More than anything, Barry just wants to film love. And I loved everything about this film. Hearing “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” during the credits destroyed me.
