man...what? idk how Gallo came up with the stylistic choices done here. the opening/credits were off-putting but immediately get your attention because it’s so different. as someone who’s fairly familiar with the area, this is so accurate in its depiction of western ny: everything is grey, economy died because the area never modernised, obsessive football fans, etc. at times, it felt like Gallo really loved Twin Peaks, and Mike Leigh’s Naked, and decided to put his own spin on it. the final parts though were when this truly became its own. is the strip club shooting the best scene ever? it’s gotta be in the discussion.
