Director Paul Thomas Anderson excels again with Magnolia and manages to extract the best from the actors involved. There isn't really a standout performance, because each one of them has a moment to shine and show different layers to their characters. Speaking of which, they are all interrelated somehow and I was very invested in their stories. Not single one of them is disposable since you realize how their path illustrates several aspects of the human condition. That great effort put into developing each character's story arc is what I admire the most about the film. Magnolia can be quite humorous at times and also emotionally involving, having several powerful and memorable scenes that are still object of discussion in the present day.
