Bryan Sudfield’s review published on Letterboxd:
Annette is an original, unconventionally obscure musical that separates itself from anything else in the genre, which is to be expected when having Leos Carax at the helm. With this being my first film in his catalog, I’m left feeling conflicted with my thoughts. On one hand, the acting from everyone is outstanding, especially Adam Driver and the music from Sparks is vastly intriguing. But on the other, the choices made with the storytelling are difficult to comprehend.
A rewatch will be happening sooner than later, because I can see my rating rising on subsequent viewings.
