Bill’s review published on Letterboxd:
As a fan of Sparks, I can now confidently say that I’m mostly a fan of their music when Russell Mael is singing it. It was simultaneously too weird and not weird enough, and honestly i started to drift off at a couple points. (Also, the guy in the row in front of me went to the concession stand four times, and I found myself distracted by how weird that was, particularly since he had to climb over someone each time he left or returned to his seat.)
I enjoyed Holy Motors; I enjoy Sparks; I enjoy musicals. I’m genuinely disappointed that what we got was the artiest Dateline NBC episode imaginable. Still like it better than La La Land, though.
