  • My Dinner with Andre

    My Dinner with Andre

My Dinner With Andre is the most real movie in every sense of the word. I don’t say this often, but it was quite simply life changing. Film is a visual medium as they say and this movie subverts that notion. There’s nothing else shown except two old friends having a conversation. It starts very slow. Almost to the point where I thought I was going to regret my decision. As the film progresses you become so engrossed in…

  • Man with a Movie Camera

    Man with a Movie Camera

This is what film is all about. In the most simplest terms, Man with a Movie Camera is a slice of life documentary showing the hustle and bustle of various Russian cities over the course of 24 hours. Trust me, the end product is truly something else. Avant-garde in its presentation, poetic in its meaning. We are shown what can be done within the medium of film. The kinetic editing creates a certain rhythm. It seems chaotic and loose…

    A Warning to the Curious

Quite the effective little British horror set against the eerie backdrop of the English countryside. It sneaks up on with its atmosphere and sound design. Part ghost story/part folk tale. Folk horror is my favorite of all the subgenres. You won’t find pagan rituals but you will find a story revolving around digging up ancient secrets that are better left in the ground. I really enjoyed the feeling of not being welcome in the small village that this takes place in. That unsettling feeling of being watched. Truly a hidden gem.

    Lost Highway

To enjoy a David Lynch film you must allow yourself to become immersed in his weird world. Do not expect explanation. Do not expect closure. Do expect truly fucking bizarre imagery and ideas. Much like Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway dives into the psyche of a disturbed individual. What is real and what is a dream? I can’t begin to unpack everything after this first time watch, but I feel the key to understanding the movie lies within the following…

I don’t even know what is real anymore. For an 81 minute film there sure is a lot packed into it. Descent into madness movies are always fun, but Perfect Blue is anything but fun. It’s quite sad and you really feel the pressure put on Mima. She’s goes from being a beloved pop star to an amateur actor without much say in the matter. There’s an inherent loneliness about being forced to…

  • Tenet

🥴: The Movie. I didn’t understand a lick of this movie, but I was entertained nonetheless. Nolan has to be the king of high concept sci-fi action. Ironically, the high concept itself is what keeps Tenet from true greatness. The ideas presented are mind-bending but convoluted in execution. Not trying to compare but Inception also had insane ideas yet I left theater with everything making sense. I still don’t get Tenet 30 minutes after it ended. I’m kind of…
