Ben’s review published on Letterboxd:
Classic Taika Waititi but now even more mature. He seems to just get better with each movie he makes. Perfect blend of whimsical, comedy and drama. Besides the obviously well done technical aspects, the performances were great. The line delivery, in particular the more comedic ones, from the young stars was pretty impressive. There are a couple scenes where you get blindsided by the subject matter. The comedy goes out the window and the sudden realization of the actual situation takes front stage. The foreshadowing of these scenes seems so obvious looking back but at the time it is rather shocking. Waititi has the ability to make such feel good movies without them ever feeling overly sentimental. Definitely check Jojo Rabbit out if it’s playing near you.
