A-Z Movie Challenge: D
Okay so the emotion is definitely there… despite my confusion during the first forty minutes, the cathartic nature of the ending was palpable enough to help me understand why so many deem this one a masterpiece. The opera music, the creepy-looking puppet, the green-red color palette: the intended mood of sickly desolation was pumping through my veins.
Do I like it ??? Meh, debatable. Kieślowski is an odd bird. The movie is beautiful in its own right, but also too ornate to resonate with me. Véronique isn’t as much of a character as she is a concept and I don’t really mess with that type of screenwriting strategy.
