Lion ★★★½

Every year, the Academy has to nominate at least one film that doesn't do much outside of presenting you with an endless montage of directionless emotions, delivering scene upon scene of crying faces, with no apparent reason other than cloying attempts at creating something compelling. This year, that movie is Lion.
I will give it some credit though, the first hour of the film represents a fantastic portrayal of a child wandering around a world they don't understand without a developed sense of basic geography or general direction, weaving in and out of frightening situations and unexplained perils they never truly understood.
