Upgrade is not your average action film. It's got a bit of horror mixed in, which isn't a surprise since the writer/director wrote and acted in Saw and it also acts as a warning against too much reliance on technology. I know that others have expressed disappointment with the ending, but I loved how it immediately made me think of Ex Machina and how Ava worked Caleb and Nathan into doing what she needed them to do to get out into the world. Nicely done.
