an extremely fun and efficient start to a wonderful franchise. columbus does so much heavy lifting with his angles and perspectives here; authority & suspicious figures are frequently shot from below, and so many of the introductory landscape shots (the arrival at hogwarts, etc) have this beautiful swooping from beneath motion that gives them a sense of imposing wonder viewed with childlike excitement. it's also insane how much ground columbus manages to cover in 2.5 hours, whilst never feeling rushed or bogged down in an exposition-dump.
