to be clear this is not a good movie
- lazy sinophobic tropes ("i wrote an article about tibet and now they won't let my son leave china!!")
- truly obnoxious, cheesy cg that belongs in spy kids or some shit
- soundtrack oscillates between incongruous boomer vibes (not sure who thought it made sense for "won't get fooled again" to be the bookending theme) and forgettable library-sounding generic thriller fare. which is a shame given "nyc bike mess soundtrack"…

well worth the price of admission on conceit alone. it's rare enough to see any treatment of migrant workers in japanese film — or, for that matter, any fiction anywhere — but this one manages to deliver some pretty sharp commentary on top of also being a horror-comedy (!).
