This is what it looks like when an estimably professional acting ensemble shows up and gets the note "try to play the hypocrisy that lurks behind the façade of small-town America" forty-five times a day for three months.
It really is wild that there are like four movies elbowing each other out of the way for attention here and all of them are hitting the exact same points with the exact same beats with the exactly consistent level of unsubtlety. That being said, this would have achieved a level of masterpiece performance art if they'd gone with no American actors at all and solely cast Brits and Australians (shout out to Romania and Sweden, already represented here).
Weirdly this might be the best demonstration yet of Tom Holland's star power, as he manages to get through this endless lugubrious bullshit playing a thinly-written dumbass in one piece, charm miraculously still intact. And I'll always ride for Robert Pattinson in Making Big Choices mode, especially when he's doing an accent this weird.
