Sonny Boy

Sonny Boy

Pure abstract storytelling at its finest. Been watching this as it aired during the past couple of months and loved each episode, even though I probably understood like 50% of what was going on. Normally I would find its convoluted structure annoying or pretentious but it sucked me in quick with its beautiful art style, sparse sound design, and an incredibly interesting whirlpool of symbols and metaphors. Once I fully realized this was not something looking for answers, I quit trying to solve its mysteries and just let it all wash over me each week, allowing whatever the series was showing to sink in and simmer until it ultimately reached a feeling that I can only describe as being sublime. And it feels like I've barely scratched the surface of what it's offering. I know for certain though I will be returning to Sonny Boy again and again over the years to discover something new within it, and myself.
