I do wish there was more depth to Taka’s character and motivation since it’s so quickly dropped (and I’m always gonna argue for more Chabuddy G), but Big in Japan is one of those rare sitcom movie tie-ins that manages to up the scale of the source material while still retaining the hilarity and the raw, awkward, grimy and sympathetically pathetic spirit of the original series that made it so great to begin with.
