I dont think I've ever experienced a bigger mismatch between expectations and reality. What a rad basic premise, but executed so badly, like astoundingly shitty. Dialogue, acting, editing, pacing, character development, just... all of it. Nope. Not even Daisy Ridley could shine up this poop. 😕
You definitely need to be in the right mood for this weird light horror/dark comedy absurdity. It's dumb, it's fun, Jake Gyllenhaal is like a young bi Nick Cage, it's definitely too long and disintegrates at the end. It's the most Netflix movie ever made, which, I dunno, is that part of the "social commentary "? Whatever man, it's not that deep, I enjoyed it.
This movie is so annoying, because some of the scares are good and the production is decent, but the acting is the worst. The actual worst. Every character is a one dimensional asshole who will switch personalities every few minutes. So you kind of just zone out and root for the bad guy, haunted app or whatever, to finally kill them. That's not even satisfying because all the kills happen off-screen. There are a couple moments where it feels like it could turn around and be ok, but it really doesn't. Also, fuck off with that dumb teddy bear 🤷♀️
