The Conformist's visuals cannot be described as striking, lyrical, haunting, ghastly, harrowing, alluring, or deliberate. No, words cannot convey the beauty of this film. As described by my dad: "every shot is it's own art form."
Despite being a sub-two hour political drama, I wouldn't disagree if you called The Conformist an epic. There is truly no rules that this film doesn't break, there are simply no cinematic chasms that this film doesn't bound with striking glory.
