Blown away by the artistry on display here in every facet. I can't think of the last time a film gave me this much anxiety. A lot of that is due to the directing choices and incredible sound mixing. This sound team deserves significantly more credit than they're getting. So much of the film's intensity is created by the sound mix. Obviously though, the highlight is Sandler. I probably sound like a broken record but I genuinely believe he's one of our best living actors and once again he proves that. A truly jaw-dropping performance. One of my favorite films of the year.
I can't remember the last time a film made me think so much. In fact, I haven't stopped since last Friday when I saw it for the first time. I love every second of this ugly, brutally honest exploration of how we treat the mentally handicapped as a society. The film's a cinematic wake up call that I think a lot of people are writing off because the message isn't something they want to hear. It's truly a work of art on every level. Masterpiece.
