-He shot my dog.
-I get it.
Following the immediate aftermath of John Wick Chapter 2, I loved how Chapter 3 explored the High Table and how it operates, through The Adjudicator and the way they make sure the people who help John suffer the consequences of crossing the table, and through John, who after recieving onslaught after onslaught of assassins, decides to "amend" and redeem himself to the High Table so he can survive.
The first part of the story was really intense, with John barely being able to get out of New York while being hunted non stop by assassins. In the meantime, The Adjudicator makes all of Wick's former allies, everyone that helped him kill Santino, pay the consequences for it. I loved how this film starts showing shades of dissent between the members that sit "below" the table; Winston, Bowery King, The Director and Sofia, all are threatened to lose what they hold dear by The High Table, and they have to decide if they're willing to still be loyal to them or not. It's almost like their code of honor is now challenged by the rules that are supposed to uphold them: all four of them helped John because of their code and loyalty, while The High Table punishes them for doing that, while claiming they broke the rules. I can't wait to see how their stories continue, not to mention John, who realizes the High Table needs to go down. The shocking twist near the end and the awesome ending have me so hooked for Chapter 4!
And I also can't wait to see what action set pieces they come up with, because the action in this film was such a blast! The incredible stunts, the several greatly coreographed hand to hand fights that never feel repetitive, the lighting and colors which remain pretty and stylish af, how they use different settings and go all out with them (the fights in the glass floors of the Continental, WTF 🤩) were so much fun to watch! I also loved how it showed not only John kicking butt this time: Sofia and Charon were awesome, Sofia was a badass and her dogs were amazing, and seeing Charon blast people with a shotgun was so freaking cool!
I have such a blast with John Wick Chapter 3! The non stop, awesome action, John's somber demeanor that made me feel he was actually in danger for once, and pushed to surrender even the bond to his wife to the Table, and the awesome worldbuilding and the stories it sets up for its colorful and badass supporting characters, are all so much fun! I also LOVE the tone of these movies, they know how fun and bonkers they are, and the dark and sometimes silly humor is still super funny and entertaining for me! Love this franchise!
