God, the amount of testosterone in this film is absolutely staggering. BIG trucks, BIG guns, BIG tits, BIG piles of money, and yes, even fart jokes...though it could have used a few more explosions to round it out. Despite the overload of manliness, 2 GUNS never goes full-on insane with it, which is disappointing on the one hand but a bit of a relief on the other. The ONE female character is a total loser, the writer and director have literally no idea how to do anything with a woman and sort of just stuck her in there to move the plot along. I had this feeling that the film was trying desperately to say SOMETHING...about the military? The government? Immigration? I haven't got a clue. There are a couple of "emotional" scenes that are completely out of place, but luckily they are about as significant as a single tree seen from the window of a bullet train. On top of all that it recycles of the plots from about 15 different movies, and the practically nonstop quipping between the two leads is entertaining but average. All that being said, there is something charming about this one. I laughed throughout, both at actual jokes and at the stupidity of the entire thing. The story is all over the place, but something about the ridiculous twists and turns, the quips, the cars, and the weird Bill Paxton super-villain gave me the feeling that just a little bit of 1970's blood ran through its veins. It could have been prettier, it could have been crazier, it could have been a lot of things...but it's a movie that's fucking called 2 GUNS. Leave your expectations at the door, people.
