ahhh, the future: where man conquers the universe by creating penis-shaped shuttles with which to penetrate it, but thankfully women are still in their rightful place as flight attendants. to me this film's greatest strength is the union between the organic and manufactured. the discomfort created is so intense, but incredibly difficult to articulate or define. namely: breathing/satellite, pencil drawing/electronic fisheye, booming orchestral score/infinite space, human face/linear interior designs. seeing this in 70mm made me want to come home and set fire to my "high definition" television in shame.
isn't it strange how that monolith looks almost like an iPhone? how HAL looks like those little red lights on everything electronic that you own?
also: read the damn book.
