  • Honor and Glory

    Honor and Glory

    ★½

did this movie enter a contest to see how many different ethnicities they could make horrible stereotypes of...?? if so i think they won?? anyway...cynthia is adorable but she's not in it much, she's also by far the best actor in the bunch which is...concerning...i did laugh heartily at several points and there are some truly incredible jackets worn, so it's not a complete waste

  • Mutant Chronicles

    Mutant Chronicles

    ★½

i bought this bluray at dollar tree

  • Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings

    Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings

    ★½

like one of the lesser puppet master sequels but instead of puppets or anything entertaining it has pumpkinhead + generous use of strobe lights

  • The Babysitter

    The Babysitter

    ★½

this actually could have been a pretty good story about the way teenagers seem like a terrifying all-powerful incomprehensible cult when you are on the cusp of puberty, or at least included even one cool satanic ritual or something, but unfortunately it insisted on being a stupid movie aimed at a very specific kind of annoying bro instead

  • Joy

    Joy

    ★½

went from being underwhelmed yesterday to slightly insulted today. your woman's picture about strong women is not a woman's picture if a brief scene starring a man overshadows the rest of the movie, not only giving it the only burst of energy but actually highlighting how bad the rest of it is in contrast. david o. russell apparently thinks i won't understand what this movie is about unless all of his depthless characters repeat it over and over again. this…

  • Supervenus

    Supervenus

    ★½

this was in the drafthouse preshow, i looked it up because i had a feeling it was made by a man. LO AND BEHOLD, a short film that literally rips apart and punishes a woman who gets plastic surgery rather than criticizing the hands that manipulate her was indeed made by a man. it's very well made, though.

  • Snow White and the Huntsman

    Snow White and the Huntsman

    ★½

some really cool images (99% of which are in the charlize scenes) but this should have been super campy or flowy/romantic/gross. extremely frustrating because i usually love this type of crap, it's YA to the core but apparently aimed at an adult (male??) audience...why? why didn't a woman direct this? only a dude would look at stewart & hemsworth and decide to shoot an entire movie through a pair of sunglasses so you can't see them prancing around being hot and staring at each other. might as well just leave the damn lens cap on. and the dwarves...buddy...no

  • The Galaxy Invader

    The Galaxy Invader

    ★½

there's this part where the hicks go to the hick bar to gather up some hick friends to capture the titular invader, and i swear the lead guy says "ALRIGHT WE'RE MEETIN' UP, AT JOE'S PLACE, 9PM" at least 15 times and it was very funny to me. i kept picturing myself in the bar going "WAIT, WHAT TIME? WHERE?" and laughing. like, could there be anything more perfectly hicks-hunting-spaceman than the phrase "MEET AT JOE'S PLACE"? it's nice to be so easily amused.

  • No Blade of Grass

    No Blade of Grass

    ★½

if viewed as satire on how the idiot british bourgeois might handle the apocalypse, or an explotation film with a brain/conscience (relatively), this is...fine. that poster sure is amazing though.

  • Jason X

    Jason X

    ★½

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

You think they're going to let the black guys live, and the girl be the one to destroy Jason, but then they don't - sort of a bummer. This isn't good but it could have been a lot worse. If you willingly choose to watch this you know what you're getting into.

  • Red Dawn

    Red Dawn

    ★½

Some truly beautiful and chilling images, but beyond its laughable politics, it's poorly written and confusing. At no point during the movie could I tell you the names of more than one or two characters, so little attention was paid to developing their individual personalities. The only kid who sticks out and adds energy to the group is the literally bloodthirsty one, and his moments to shine are few. Feels like it's 3 hours long.

    I'm reading about the colonization…

  • Moonrise Kingdom

    Moonrise Kingdom

    ★½

I can't say I'm disappointed by MOONRISE KINGDOM, as it is exactly what I expected...and that's the problem. There was nothing new or surprising, nothing that moved me or even kept me invested in what was happening. Anderson is too good a technician, I suppose. He's so good at moving the camera around, framing shots, transitioning from one scene to another, building his world and moving his characters around in it, that any emotion or energy is crushed. Even in…
