Possession ★★★★★

I had no idea what to expect going into this movie, and I am honestly so thankful for that. Possession is one of the most surreal experiences I've ever had with a film. It honestly felt unreal to me, like I was still dreaming and just hadn't realized it yet. It's as crazy as everyone says and then some. What makes it so amazing to me though, is that Żuławski was able to direct such a surreal hellscape while also creating a deeply meaningful piece of art. Possession at its core is an allegory for divorce, the things that lead to it, and the horror of the whole process. It's about how damaging it is to all parties involved, about how falling out of love is one of the worst things that could happen to a person. Everything about this film is done absolutely perfectly, creating an experience like none I've felt before, and that I won't soon forget.
