The Jewel of the Nile

The Jewel of the Nile ★★★½

It's not a surprise that The Jewel of the Nile isn't as good as Romancing The Stone; they changed the screenwriter and the director, the main cast only came back by contractual obligation and everything was done within 18 months of the first movie. They also separated Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner for most of the movie, which is what made the first movie so good. At least it has more of Danny DeVito in it!
Even with all that, The Jewel of the Nile still manages to be an entertaining movie. I'm glad that they just didn't try to rehash Romancing The Stone and actually bring the adventure somewhere else, this time in Africa instead of South America. They also had Danny DeVito be more of an ally which is better because you get to see him more often and his presence does make the movie way better than it ought to be.
Whenever I watch Romancing The Stone or The Jewel of the Nile its going to be a double feature. For me there's no watching one without the other.
