    Hanging Up

Objectively not good but as one of three sisters I have to like any entry into the three sisters canon

    Up in the Air

In retrospect it makes sense how much I loved this incredibly depressing movie as a freshman in college.

  • Love, Gilda

    Love, Gilda

Do I wish celebrity biographical documentaries were a little more gutsy and dove a little deeper? Yes. Do I also love the pleasant and generally okay ones because, well, consider the alternative? Also yes!

The more I rewatch this one, the more struck I am by the troves of archive audio they found and what great use they put it to. Having Gilda's voiceover as the spine of the doc really makes you feel like, somehow, she had a say in this telling of her story.

    Garbo Talks

anne bancroft's monologue that never once says it explicitly but expresses why we can love people we've never even met so deeply simply because their presence has been a constant through all the big moments of our lives.................[wipes away tears wow that was so powerful academy award]

  • Frances Ha

    Frances Ha

Watching for the first time older and slightly more together in life than Frances but still close enough that all those feelings are painfully fresh and close to the surface feels like I could tip into cringing over the harrowing memories or romanticizing the messy uncertainty at any moment. I love when movies are onions upon rewatch!!! Undateable!!!

    Operation Petticoat

another one for the "cary grant is a sarcastic, jaded, perpetually annoyed man on a boat, hot." canon

  • The Birdcage

    The Birdcage

I am literally never not thinking about the time Elaine May revealed that Nathan Lane's entire "if you really want to stop abortions, why not kill the mothers?” monologue was lifted verbatim from something she once said at a stuffy dinner party full of people she knew she'd never see again.
