    The Mitchells vs. The Machines

A predictable story with some pointed criticism at our dependency on technology and the “power of family” stuff. Pretty mediocre from a writing and story standpoint.

It is VERY refreshing to watch a non-Pixar movie that makes some bold creative decisions, even if they don’t all pay off. There’s clearly some influence from the Lego Batman Movie, but I think from an animation standpoint, this movie takes some risks and experiments with the way an animated story can be told, and for that I really commend the effort!

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

I can see how Grace Kelly became a princess.

Hitchcock’s use of the contrast between light and shadow is revolutionary. The scene where Thorwald smokes a cigarette in the dark and you see the embers go in and out: what a brilliant shot.

I especially love the fact that Hitchcock draws us in by making us feel like we’re also the ones peeping throw the windows. Every time Jefferies looks through the binoculars or the telephoto lens, it feels like…

WeWork: or The Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn

Solid documentary that shows the rise and fall of WeWork through the human story, but I felt like it could’ve gone deeper in the financial engineering and salesmanship tactics that led to WeWork being one of the most bloated startups to have ever existed.

This was a horror movie...the gradual erosion of personal identity is such a tough concept to both comprehend and accept. The final scene between Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Williams is just a MasterClass in acting. This deserves every acting accolade out there!

  • The Way Back

    The Way Back

A by-the-book sports drama led by an emotional performance from Ben Affleck, and is surprisingly (in a good way) less about the sport but more a story about grief and how we cope with it.
