Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Star Wars: The Last Jedi ★★★

[Seen at the World Premiere!]

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a modern, hilarious, action-packed crowd-pleaser, but it also feels a little... safe. Rian Johnson knows how to create a Star Wars movie, certainly on the writing front, but especially in the director’s chair; however, the formulaic nature of the story tends to overshadow his creativity. The film features some fantastic elements — John Williams’ iconic score, solid performances across the board, sweet sweeping cinematography, and some phenomenal sequences in the third act — and it sure is fun, but its conventionality holds it back from greatness.
