Christian Berger’s review published on Letterboxd:
Absolutely haunting as the film is set during a civilizations final moments yet it's main focus is set on their wanting for bloodlust depicted through gladiator fights. The overruling and unjust Roman Senator ravishes in the ideas of violence and inflicting pain upon the lower class, as it is praised in an encapsulated arena. An innocent man is imprisoned and torn away from a love that is viewed upon as forbidden, simply due to class structure. We as the viewers must watch all this unfold, knowing that all the petty imperialism and unnecessary violence will not matter due to the natural destruction of Pompeii. In the end, Nature will simply eradicate man's own self worth.
