lady bird is the most authentic exploration of the teenage experience that i have ever had the pleasure of viewing. greta gerwig's vision is something that strangely most people can relate to, even if they haven't grown up in the same conditions and gone through the same things that she has. i'm now in my senior year of high school and this film could not be more emotionally resonant to me. the worry of not getting into a good enough college plagues me constantly. the yearning to do what everyone else is doing all the while maintaining your individuality confuses me. anyways, here's a quote that sums up my trepidations perfectly: "We're afraid that we will never escape our past. We're afraid of what the future will bring. We're afraid we won't be loved, we won't be liked. And we won't succeed."
