"Do you feel held by him? Does he feel like home to you?"

    Director's Cut

A masterpiece. A slow, creeping sense of unease pervades this sunlit-yet-dark tale of grief, isolation, and family. Aster has constructed such a film that deserves many rewatches - as difficult as that may be sometimes - simply for the insane amount of detail inserted into nearly every shot. Along with Pogorzelski and Svensson, Aster provides an entire, lush world in Hårga full of history and…

"You know a seed has to totally destroy itself to become a flower. That's a violent act, Honey Boy."

    My 1,000th review on Letterboxd.

It had to be a film that I cared deeply about. A movie that was amazing, from top to bottom. Where every single thing pays off, where every element was composed with such tender care, and such respect to the material. It had to be something that felt as uplifting as it was devastating. Something cathartic.…

You know all the weird shit we should've been getting with the whole "Strange Tales" type movies and settings in the MCU? Like both "Doctor Strange" films, and even some of the "Thor" movies? Well, it's all here. All the weird shit. Here.

Pfeiffer is still at the top of her game, and it's awesome to see her being able to take the steering wheel in this one for a while.

And Majors is a fantastic villain, even…

"I found your brother in the breeze, pushing me gently, but firm."

While the Marvel logos are beautifully altered to honor the tragically late Chadwick Boseman (as does something later in the film), it was an absolute mistake to kill T'Challa, the character and symbol that he stood for, instead of recasting.

The Dora Milaje music is so intimidating, and used well a few times, but much of the rest of the score is nowhere near as impressive and memorable…

I can't help it. I like this dumb movie. I like Perry, I love Hayek. I like the manic comedy, I love how it's such a time capsule, and I love the setting. It's definitely a mediocre, run-of-the-mill rom-com, complete with no-doubt hilarious rump injuries, but it feels like a hug from an old friend.

    "Fear is a tool."

Goddamn this movie is slick. With the best plot to date of any of the "Batman" movies, this latest one comes so quickly on the heels of Snyder's attempt and dives recklessly into the dark, noir side of the world's greatest detective.

It presents a complex and gripping murder mystery that actually has Batman conducting more of the puzzle-solving side of his lore. But the action is also there, and it's splendid, extremely well choreographed, and…
