Chase Gemes’s review published on Letterboxd:
I have been really wanting to watch this for a long time, and it did not disappoint. Way ahead of its time in terms of the messages it was spreading. It starts out as pretty much a comedy, and then starts getting tenser and more emotional as it moves along. This is absolutely one of Pacino’s best performances. While everyone and everything surrounding Pacino are great, he is the driving force of the movie. I’ve also gotta watch more of Lumet’s stuff, because the 2 I’ve seen from him are both incredible. He seems like the king of making movies in pretty much one location.
Also, I wish John Cazale didn’t pass away so early. All 5 of the movies he was in were nominated for Best Picture, which is crazy. He was very talented.
