Wow. I was blown away. This film was so beautiful in pretty much every sense of the word. The cinematography is outstanding in this. So many scenes in this look like pieces of artwork painted on the screen before us. The set is perfect as is the costume design. Carol always looks top notch. Mara and Blanchett are at their best. I'll admit I have never been the biggest Cate Blanchett fan, this may have changed my mind completely. The chemistry between the two feels so real. You'd think you were watching someone videotaping an actual couple, that is how real it felt.
I know this feels so similar to any other gay couple who can't be together because society says so sort of deal, but damn it's such a true story that's been told so many times in real life. Maybe one day it will stick.
