Costa Gavras’ Favourite Films

A record of Costa Gavras’ favourite films. The Greek film director and self proclaimed communist, is known for his overtly socio-political themed films which tackle historical change, civil injustices and unrest. Through such works as ‘Z, State of Siege and Missing’, he progressed the modern political thriller genre.

Costa-Gavras submitted his top 52 favourites list to French film streaming platform 'LaCinetek' in 2018, when LaCinetek published a series in which directors curated lists of their favourite films. He also once claimed in an interview that he decided he wanted to be a filmmaker after seeing Erich von Stroheim's 'Greed' (1924).
