    Triple Frontier

"Triple Frontier" is awesome? A kind of searing indictment of both American interventionism and the country’s treatment of its veterans plus a satire/takedown of movies that celebrates the former *and* a riff on "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" plus Sad Affleck. Very unexpected, very excellent.

    Captain Marvel

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are the credited co-directors here, not that anyone could actually tell. This is a supremely anonymous movie, which has one idea (toxic men try to keep women down to prop themselves up) but doesn't even get there until the last 30 minutes. Mission: Impossible - Fallout

What if "The Dark Knight" but Tom Cruise? What if "Skyfall" but "Mission Impossible"? That's "Fallout," the best movie of 2018 thus far and the best action movie since "Mad Max: Fury Road." To use an overdone online parlance, this movie fucks. "Fallout" is a…

    Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Watched "The Last Jedi" for the third time (thanks, Netflix) and was even more blown away. This is a pretty obvious masterpiece, the work of a brilliant filmmaker with a point-of-view who then used millions of corporate dollars to make his vision a reality. I would say I can't believe "Star Wars" "fans" don't like this movie, but then I remembered we're on Earth in 2018 and everything is stupid.
