Wild at Heart

Wild at Heart

"Wild at Heart takes the anatomy of a road movie and subverts it with Lynchian sensibilities."
A crime thriller combining comedy, mystery and eerie surreal imagery in typical David Lynch fashion. Definitely one of his more conventional works but that doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the film.
The score by Angelo Badalamenti for me is one of the best aspects of the film, immediately setting the hyper tone from the opening scene with an electric guitar piece.
Nicolas Cage puts in a good performance, with an over the top delivery along with singing his lines as usual. Laura Dern dials it up too with the duality of balancing charisma and dreading fear in her role. Other stand out performances include Diane Ladd and Harry Dean Stanton, both adding another layer to the film's relationship dynamics.
The film works for the most part but falls short at times with balancing all the subplots and pacing, especially towards the end of the film.
